Coming up with yummy and healthy snack ideas for kids every day can be challenging. I always try to think up different snacks that are fresh, easy to make, nutritious and delicious, snacks that my kids will actually want to eat.

Here are two recipes that are a hit with my children and their friends.

Chocolate Strawberry Yoghurt Parfait

There’s just something about the combination of chocolate and strawberry that entices children to sit down and completely lick their bowls clean.

Ingredients

400 g hung yoghurt or Greek yoghurt

1 tbsp drinking chocolate powder

2 tbsp powdered mixed nuts (in case your child has nut allergies, skip this and add 2 tbsp of drinking chocolate powder)

1 tbsp honey

½ cup chopped strawberries

Method

  1. Add the chocolate powder, mixed nut powder and honey to the yoghurt. Mix well with a whisk to make it smooth and lump free.
  2. Add about three tablespoons of this chocolate yoghurt to your serving bowl, top it with some chopped strawberries.
  3. Repeat the layers.
  4. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes.

Easy Peasy Chickpea Patties

t healthy snacks for kids - chickpea patties

These easy chickpea patties are slightly crisp on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. My children just love to eat these as is, though they also taste yum  served with a garlic yoghurt dip or a simple green chutney

Ingredients

200 g cooked  and drained chickpeas

200 g mixed vegetables – broccoli, carrot, beans – steamed

¼ cup bajra flour (or nachni/ finger millet flour or quinoa flour)

1 tsp garlic-green chilli paste

1;tsp ground cumin

½ tsp chilli powder

Salt, to taste

1 tsp oil, for frying

Method

  1. Place all the ingredients, except the oil, in a food processor and pulse until ground. Do not purée. Make the mixture into small patties.
  2. Heat the oil on a skillet over a medium flame, and roast the chickpea patties on the pan on each side until lightly golden brown and crispy.
  3. Serve as is or with some yoghurt dipping sauce or chutney.
