EXCLUSIVE: Soha Ali Khan Snacks on Almonds Before and After Working out, Says `It`s Always a Big Party` wit... - Zee News

Actress and fitness enthusiast Soha Ali Khan Pataudi is an avid social media user and her interesting Instagram feed often has an inspiring workout regime and healthy snacking. In an exclusive interview with Zee News Digital, Soha opened up on the importance of working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She also shared a sneak peek into the fitness routine and much more.

Q. You are a fitness enthusiast, what is your daily routine like?

A. I am very diligent when it comes to exercise, and I follow a fitness routine. My routine is a mix of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), yoga and jogging. I usually indulge myself with HIIT four times a week, jog twice and practice yoga once a week. I snack on almonds before and after working out to give my body the level of energy it requires through the day. In fact, sometimes consuming almonds during the day helps in retaining strength, reduces post-exercise fatigue and improves mood after a workout session1. This routine not only keeps me healthy but also helps me set an example for my daughter.

Q. Has motherhood introduced you to some healthy diet options or were you always into it?

A. My mother taught me the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. I have been eating right and exercising regularly since a very young age. I believe in the importance of nourishing my body with nutrient-dense food to not only fuel my energy levels but also to support my overall health. I want to imbibe healthy habits in my little one from a young age itself. Like I used to follow my mother, I am sure my little one follows me. For her to adopt the right habits, I ensure to eat healthy when we are together as these small learnings go a long way. As part of my diet, I incorporate fruits and vegetables, along with lean proteins and whole grains. I have also been experimenting with different types of superfoods, such as chia seeds and quinoa, to boost my nutrient intake.

Due to my busy schedule, I keep a bowl of almonds handy. Honestly, snacking on almonds is one of my favourite habits that I have had for quite some time. And since I’ve been doing this for a long time, my body has been able to stay strong and energized all day long. Almonds are said to be the source of 15 nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, protein, riboflavin, zinc, and so on. They have satiating properties that make me feel less hungry and provide a feeling of being full for longer periods too. In fact, almonds also help me maintain skin health as they contain healthy fats, antioxidants and vitamin E which have been shown to benefit the skin. Moreover, I also read that Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani texts say that almonds are good for skin health and can enhance skin glow.

Motherhood has made me more aware of the importance of a healthy diet and has introduced me to new options that I can incorporate into my daily routine and set a good example for my little one, who is not so little anymore.

Q. How do you juggle work-life balance?

A. Sometimes it can be difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance. My strategy is to set clear boundaries and make time for self-care, such as exercise, meditation, and spending time with my loved ones. I also make sure to prioritize my mental and physical well-being by incorporating healthy habits in my daily routine. Adding almonds to my routine has helped me maintain a healthy balance and stay energized throughout the day. Regular consumption of almonds has been linked to lower cholesterol levels, improved heart health, and even weight management. Additionally, they make a convenient and satisfying snack that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere, making them perfect for my busy schedule.

Q. Do you believe in New Year's resolutions? If yes, what's yours this year?

A. Yes, I do believe in New Year's resolutions. It's a time for reflection and setting intentions for the upcoming year. This year, my resolution is to continue to focus on my mental and physical well-being. I want to prioritize self-care and make sure I'm taking care of my body and mind. I also want to continue to use my influence to raise awareness for important causes. Additionally, I want to challenge myself to try new things and step out of my comfort zone. Overall, I want to strive for balance, growth, and happiness in the coming year.

Q. What's it like when the whole fam-jam gets together?

A. When the whole fam-jam gets together, it's always a wild and unforgettable time. Being busy in our lives, it's not often that we all get to be in the same place at the same time, so when we do, it's a real treat. We love catching up, telling stories, and making memories. It's always a big party, and there's never a dull moment. We're all so busy with our own lives, so it's nice to be able to come together and just enjoy each other's company. I feel truly blessed to have such an amazing family, and I cherish every moment we get to spend together.

Patriotic Songs, Snacks And Camaraderie: How AAP Members Spent Time At MCD House - Outlook India

Hot cups of chai, snacks, patriotic songs and dollops of camaraderie -- this is how AAP members sustained their nearly five-hour-long peaceful protest inside the chamber of the municipal House which failed to elect a mayor on Tuesday.

Soon as the House was adjourned till a further date by presiding officer Satya Sharma around 3 pm, AAP members, including its 13 MLAs and three MPs, refused to budge from it, and accused the BJP of "running away from the mayoral poll".

The protest was finally called off around 8 pm when party MP Sanjay Singh and MLA Durgesh Pathak addressed the AAP leaders, and asserted that their mayor and deputy mayor will be eventually elected.

Earlier, the AAP members seemed to made merry while lodging a protest sitting in the Aruna Asaf Ali hall.

Many councillors took turns to sing songs, largely patriotic numbers like 'Rang de Basanti', 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon' and 'Dil Diya Hai', and one member even recited 'Vande Mataram'.

The House proceedings began around 11:20 am and nominated members were first administered the oath by presiding officer Satya Sharma, followed by elected councillors.

AAP members had objected to aldermen being administered the oath first and chanted "shame, shame" when it was being done.

Sharma had briefly adjourned the proceedings after the oath-taking ceremony. Later around 3 pm, she adjourned the House till further date after a brief ruckus among members of the AAP and the BJP.

While BJP members walked out with many chanting slogans against Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP members sat in their seats, refusing to move out of the House in protest.

The mayoral election could not be conducted as the newly-elected House convened on Tuesday for the second time in over two weeks. AAP MP Sanjay Singh hit out at the BJP, alleging that the mandate given by the two crore people of Delhi to Arvind Kejriwal and his party has been "strangulated".

Addressing his party members in the premises of the MCD House after it was adjourned till next date, the Rajya Sabha MP alleged the BJP was running away from mayoral election as it is "losing it badly".

Mayoral election is "not being allowed" to take place. The BJP is starting a "very dangerous tradition ('bhayanak parampara')," Singh alleged.

In the evening, cups of chai were served to the AAP members and many shared slices of sandwiches and fruits.

Many younger councillors from the AAP were seen taking blessings of their elder counterparts, while a few others huddled for some selfies as they went on with their protest in the House.

Around 7 pm, the lights were still switched on in the MCD House as AAP members occupied it, leaving many civic officials in a fix.

"We don't know when will this protest end. Tea, snacks and songs keeping them going," an official source told PTI, requesting anonymity. "We have never seen something like this," he said later in the evening.

Earlier in the day, there was tight security arrangements for the House proceedings with heavy deployment of security personnel on the Civic Centre premises, and in the House as well.

After the oath-taking when the House was briefly adjourned, several BJP councillors started chanting 'Modi, Modi' and targeted AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and raised slogans against him.

An AAP councillor, after taking oath, thanked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the podium, prompting AAP members in the House to shout in support, following which BJP members objected to Kejriwal's name being taken on the dais and they countered AAP members' cries with 'Modi Modi' chants.

Later, the AAP paraded its 151 members on the premises of the MCD House -- 135 councillors, 13 MLAs and three MPs -- to prove that it had the numbers in its favour to have the mayor from the party.

Party MLAs Atishi and Durgesh Pathak also interacted with their party members in the House and exhorted them to go on as the evening slipped into night.

Around 8 pm, the AAP members dispersed from the House amid chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', 'Arvind Kejriwal Zindabad', 'Aam Aadmi Party Zindabad' and 'Bhagoda Party Sadan Mey Aao'.

"We waited till 7:30 pm so that the mayoral election could be held, but it didn't happen," Singh told reporters after emerging from the House.

"We waited hoping that the LG would let the election happen today. But, democracy is being diminished and the LG is not doing anything," MLA Atishi alleged.

UK Youngsters Prefer Samosa Over Biscuits With Tea: Survey

Survey reveals younger people preferred "nutty or spicy flavours"

Enjoying tea with bourbon or digestives has been part of Britain's life. But, according to a new survey young people in the UK are opting for savoury snacks instead of sweet treats. A new survey has revealed that young people in the UK prefer munching on snacks such as samosa with their tea.

According to a survey of 1,000 people by the United Kingdom Tea & Infusions Association (UKTIA), granola bars are the tea snack of choice for one in ten 18 to 29-year-olds, more than double the proportion of over-65s.

In second place was samosa, with some eight per cent of youngsters surveyed opting for the savoury Indian snack with their tea - but no one over 65 did.

"I think granola bars are probably also quite filling, so maybe people are having that as a snack with their tea to fill them up," Dr Sharon Hall, the chief executive of the UKTIA, told The Daily Telegraph newspaper.

"They may be looking for something a little bit more substantial. The same would apply to a samosa," she said.

Hall suggested younger people likely preferred "nutty or spicy flavours" as they evoked memories of dishes eaten on gap years while travelling around the world.

"One thing that we are interested to find out more about is maybe such food reminds them of recent travels they have taken and a cuppa with a samosa takes them back to that memory. We know from the data that a cuppa (tea) triggers many sorts of positive emotions, and that's something that really cuts across all age groups," she said.

A further study from the market research company Mintel shows that 16 to 24-year-olds are half as likely to enjoy a sweet biscuit with their tea as those over 55.

Mintel, which interviewed around 2,000 tea drinkers between August and October last year, warned that "future sales of sweet biscuits are at risk if the younger generation do not establish the hot drink with biscuits habit".

"Gen Z have little time for the old rules of three formal meals per day, and TikTok has introduced them to a melting point of culinary traditions. Snacks won't ruin the meal, they are the meal," Jonny Forsyth, director at the group's subsidiary Mintel Food and Drink, told the newspaper. PTI

LONDON: When England's Food Standards Agency boss Susan Jebb recently compared eating cake at work to passive smoking, office cubicle walls across the land quivered. She told The Times:

"If nobody brought in cakes into the office, I would not eat cakes in the day, but because people do bring cakes in, I eat them. Now, OK, I have made a choice, but people were making a choice to go into a smoky pub."

Professor Jebb is right to criticise unstructured eating in the workplace, which can contribute to unhealthy eating. Over-consumption of unhealthy products such as cakes and processed foods can of course contribute to dietary issues including obesity and coronary heart disease. But this should be balanced against the social impact and positive effects of bringing food into the workplace.

When colleagues bake cakes or biscuits and share them, it no doubt boosts both the giver and the receiver. Employees in Sweden seem to believe this is true: Fika is a daily social event based around sharing food at work - mainly cakes and other sweet dishes. But Fika involves taking time away from the desktop or workbench to engage with colleagues over food. Eating together like this has been shown to have benefits ranging from more positive feelings about the workplace and better mental health to improved team working.

Let them eat cake

Indeed, much of the discussion in the wake of Jebb's comments has focused on people's inability to resist eating cake or biscuits that have been left out. This is possibly more of a danger when people set up a cake or snack desks or areas and simply leave food there for people to help themselves throughout the day.

And employees also face other food-related pressures that should be more of a priority for governments and companies. Some research shows staff are often too stressed to take time to make healthy food choices at work. One way of stopping this is to ensure that there are options for staff to eat while at work, either on-site or through off-site provision.

The UK has a history of "workers' canteens" originating during the second world war when it was compulsory for businesses employing more than 250 people to have somewhere for everyone to eat. In the 1950s, canteens in the workplace started to become less popular, often due to changing tastes, negative experiences of past "institutional catering", lack of choice, as well as the loss of government subsidies. Ticket restaurants no longer exist in the UK, where they originated, but such schemes still operate in 50 countries worldwide. This kind of initiative works well for places of employment without a canteen or designated eating area. Some governments even recognise it as a tax-deductible benefit so employers can claim a tax reduction for the provision of the voucher.

When colleagues bake cakes or biscuits and share them, it no doubt boosts both the giver and the receiver.

Eating at your desk

In many countries, including the UK, workplace eating habits have also changed over time. Fewer people now take an hour-long lunch break. A 2021 survey of 133 UK companies found that 6% of workers in the UK regularly skip lunch. And as the British entrepreneur Alan Sugar reportedly said when discussing employee eating habits at his computer company, as far back as 1987:

"At Amstrad the staff start early and finish late. Nobody takes lunches - they may get a sandwich slung on their desk."

But workplace eating is actually important for productivity, if properly balanced. When the International Labour Organization (ILO) analysed eating habits worldwide in 2005, it found that a poor or excessive diet in the workplace could decrease productivity by 20%. It also identified the importance of vouchers as offering social benefits to employees and financial support to local economies.

In the past few years, COVID has obviously changed working practices and developments such as internet ordering and workplace delivery have also affected what people can eat for lunch. Reviving systems such as ticket restaurants in the UK could provide valuable income for local restaurants and catering establishments that are suffering from a loss of business in the wake of lockdowns and financial pressures from the rising cost of doing business.

And while many large companies do provide in-house or equivalent ticket-type systems for their employees, this is more often a perk for highly paid tech workers these days, than for lower-income employees that probably need it more with food price inflation currently at 16%.

Social eating offers many benefits ranging from nutrition through mental health to better productivity at work. Eating cake can be part of this. More importantly, governments should support workplace policies that help employees down tools to eat at work. This will enable people and the companies they work for to benefit from having food - of all kinds - available to share during the working day.
