These potato cheese shots are the stuff of dreams: they are lightly crisp, golden nuggets that ooze with cheese and seasoning when bitten into. They always seem to disappear from the plate too soon! This snack is another great choice for when you have leftover mashed potatoes. You have to mix the mashed potatoes with herbs and spices of your choice. 5. Aloo Lollipops

Chicken lollipops are one of the most beloved starters for non-vegetarians. This vegetarian version relies on the power of potatoes to give a similar hint of spice and crispiness. To make aloo lollipops, you have to simply mix grated potatoes with chopped onions, chillies, and capsicum. Next, add spices like cumin powder, red chilli powder, chilli flakes, oregano and salt to taste. Use corn flour to thicken the mixture and combine thoroughly. Make big balls of the mixture, skewer them with an ice cream stick and shape them into ovals. Coat with bread crumbs on all sides and fry till golden. Click here for the full recipe.
These snacks are the perfect to binge on, anytime of the day or week. Thank goodness for potatoes!

‘Pista barfi pioneer’, Kanwarji was Chandni Chowk’s OG snacking site. Now selfie spot too - ThePrint

Sometime around 1850, Kanwarji seth came to Delhi from Bahadurgarh in modern-day Haryana and began to sell dal biji, a fried savoury dish that North Indians relish as a snack with morning or evening tea. Although there are no written records as such, it is anyone’s guess that this homemade snack by Kanwarji became so popular that the family set up its residence in Chandni Chowk. With its bustling streets and thriving bazaars, Chandni Chowk was the heart of the Mughal capital, and if your business saw initial success here, you were surely on your way to good times.

Soon, Kanwarji’s son Bhagirath Mal also joined the business, and the duo set up their establishment at a spot on the main Chandni Chowk street. Located at the cusp of the famous Paranthe Wali Gali — the virtual ‘food court’ where the entire city came to savour their favourite delicacies at that time — Kanwarji Bhagirath Mal became a snacking hotspot. People returning home from Chandni Chowk would get an item or two packed and enjoy it with their families.

Kanwarji and Bhagirath Mal played on their strengths. They kept a small menu, consisting only of their best and most popular items. Dal biji, of course, and another pet savoury called sem ke beej. Made from dried seeds of a flat bean, sem ke beej is still Kanwarji Bhagirath Mal’s exclusive item that you can’t find anywhere else even today. These two namkeen items, along with aloo ka lachcha, matar samosa, and kachori, became classic purchases for most Delhi residents who wanted to taste the flavours of India.

“While most namkeen shops largely use powdered and readymade spice mixes, which include four to five main spices like salt, chilli, tatri, khatai, we buy saabut or raw spice stock and make our own masalas. We also use exotic spices such as jaiphal (nutmeg) and javitri (mace) that many have forgotten [today]. Other namkeenwalas use essential oils for expensive spices such as heeng (asafoetida). But we use the solid rock chunks of heeng as per our traditional recipes. Also, all our items are fried in desi ghee,” says Rachit Gupta, the fifth-generation owner of this 173-year-old eatery.

Also read: Naulakha Soap survived 1947 Partition and modern-day competition. It still sells

Pioneers of the pista barfi

After mastering the recipes of various savoury items, Kanwarji and Bhagirath Mal began to expand their repetoir to include sweets. They claim to be the pioneers of piste ki laungi or pista barfi. One of the most expensive sweet items on the menu, it’s a hot favourite at Indian weddings and festivals. While it appears that most sweets shops in India are phasing out traditional items such as pateesa, balushahi, and sohan halwa, Kanwarji Bhagirath Mal claims that their loyal clients, for whom these are comfort foods, keep the demand high.

While the consumer market across India continues to change at a hurtling pace, Kanwarji Bhagirath Mal stands out for its  rootedness in tradition and continuity of old practices . The owners haven’t even switched to different vendors over the years — generations of the same family have been their suppliers. “Earlier, our milk and ghee vendor brought supplies on a bullock cart. Now he comes in a van. That is the only difference. My grandfather and his grandfather worked together. My father and his father worked together. And now, we carry on the work ties. The key element in this is — I can trust him with quality. He can trust me with payments,” says Rachit with a chuckle.

Also read: Kashmir militancy to Sharmila Tagore as brand face—Ahujasons’ road to India’s winter fashion

Rootedness in tradition

The cardboard boxes, packaging, logo, and even the font have remained unchanged for over a hundred years and are reminiscent of an earlier era. “I have a visitor whose family left India during Partition. Now she comes from Britain every year and takes back 15 kg of sweet and savoury items. She says she has to send packets to her parents and all her siblings because these items were a part of their childhood. The taste helps the family relive old times,” says Rachit.

When an antiquated eatery becomes a selfie spot for teenagers eagerly coming to Purani Dilli on a food walk, and when Kanwarji Bhagirath Mal’s delicacies get profiled on Instagram, it is clear that this establishment straddles two worlds – the very old and the very young.

Energy boosting snacks for kids - Daijiworld.com

By Ganesh Kadhe

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANSlife): Nurturing your kid's hunger can be challenging given the many factors a parent must consider, such as nutrition, health benefits, and so on. Although it is one of the most important areas for parents to focus on during their children's developing stages, a child's fussy eating habits can be incredibly difficult. While children grow quickly, they require a lot of nutrition during their growing years to keep them energetic and moving throughout the day. To ensure that kids obtain their optimum nutritional value and energy from the snacks they consume, we must observe their eating patterns and look at alternative snacking options. Dr Ganesh Kadhe, Director, Medical and Scientific Affairs, Abbott's Nutrition business offers some advice for parents that will help them choose snacks for their children.

Set a mealtime - While bouts of hunger can be satiated with snacks, it's important that parents set fixed mealtime for their kids. Kid's snacks preferably should be scheduled in between meals. Eating too much too close to a meal may cause them to lose their appetite; waiting too long to eat can lead to overeating.

Prioritise Protein - During the early years, children develop bone and muscle. It is thus advisable to include protein-rich food in their snacks. Protein helps to quench hunger for a longer time compared to high-sugar snacks such as chocolate. For instances, eggs, cheese, or nuts are a good source of protein that will give them the energy that they need throughout the day.

Taste - Children may enjoy eating sweets over vegetables leading them to refusing healthier food options and become a picky eater. Repeatedly exposing children to a new food item, within a positive social environment, and from an early age is effective in increasing children's willingness to try it.

Appetite - Snacking near a mealtime may reduce children's desire to eat the meal. Additionally, while it is essential to structure mealtimes and snacks, it is also essential to remove distractions (for eg: screens) as that may stop them from being aware of the body's cues that influence appetite. This can lead them to overeat when they grow up or simply not eat enough. The fundamentals of lifelong physical and mental health are laid in early childhood. Building healthy habits and routines can help promote optimal growth and enhance children's overall health.

Keeping these things in mind, below are five savvy yet healthy snacking options for your kid:

Hard Boiled Eggs and cheese cubes

Set yourself up for your kids' snacking success by preparing a batch of hard-boiled eggs at the beginning of the week. Large eggs have 6 grams of protein a piece, and they pair perfectly with cheese cubes which are a great hit amongst kids. With 5 to 7 grams of protein and only 80 calories, cheese cubes are a great on-the-go snack option that can also go along with fresh veggies.

D.I.Y. Snack Mix

Why spend money on readymade snack mixes when you can make your own at home and with healthier ingredients? For a little snack that's packed with flavor, combine unsalted almonds, walnuts, and unsweetened dried fruit with extras like unsweetened coconut flakes, raisins, dates, and seeds.

Poha

Poha is made with flattened rice, you can cook this with chopped onions, spices, herbs, lemon juice and peanuts. This is a refreshing, lemony dish and can be topped with some crunchy sev, fresh-cut onions, or grated coconut to make it look more appetizing to kids. This is also a great tiffin snack for kids.

Pancakes

Pancakes can be an easy to make and fun snack option for your kids. Adding some chocolate flavoured PediaSure powder to your mix will elevate the taste and increase the nutritional value of the snack. It is a complete and balanced nutrition solution with 37 nutrients, scientifically tested to help improve immunity and supports visible growth to children in 90 days.

Dhoklas and Idlis

Because they are low in fat and high in protein, they make excellent evening snacks. Steaming your dhoklas and avoiding topping them with sweet chutney will help you cut calories. Preparing idlis with oats will add extra boost of energy and protein to this dish.

Seafood snacks outlets in Vizag soon - Indiatimes.com

VISAKHAPATNAM: The state government is planning to introduce exclusive ready-to-eat seafood snacks outlets as part of Fish Andhra programme.
As part of this, it has sanctioned 37 outlets in the district. These outlets would be set up in major junctions, tourist spots, and urban areas including commercial spaces, highways, eat streets, universities, and shopping malls. Though vizag is the largest exporter of marine products, it does not have sufficient seafood outlets. The new outlets will serve seafood snacks such as prawns, crabs, and fish to fill the gap, sources said. The first seafood snacks outlet by co-branding with Best Fresh Fries (BFF) of Hyderabad will be open for customers in Pendurthi area in a couple of days. A few more outlets would be set up in Fish Andhra units on Beach Road, Jagadamba Junction, etc.
Fish remains central to Vizag’s economy. When it comes to marine exports, Vizag port is considered one of the top contributors, and AP is the largest exporter of fish and shrimp in the country. The government is enhancing seafood consumption and fish sales. It is now linking Fish Andhra outlets with the seafood snacks outlets which are called co-branding outlets, by providing subsidies. “When exports were stopped during the pandemic, around 34 outlets were sanctioned to Visakhapatnam district and most of them would be set up in Vizag,” Visakhapatnam district fisheries joint director Vijaya said.

6-Year-Old Twins Tried To Order $800 Worth Of Snacks On Instacart - Romper

Author Jessica Aiwuyor is a mom of 6-year-old twin girls who happen to be very resourceful. Especially when it comes to snacking. As the mom shared in a viral Twitter thread, her daughters were feeling a little peckish and tried their darnedest to get themselves some snacks via Instacart. To the tune of $800 worth of Lunchables, Doritos, and of course Capri Sun. Thank goodness they couldn’t quite figure out that final step.

In a recent Twitter thread, Aiwuyor shared that her daughters attempted to go on a little online shopping spree. “My six year old twins almost purchased close to $800 worth of snacks using my Instacart app.” The exasperated mom shared screenshots of the massive order her daughters attempted to put through, including a whopping 35 packs of Capri Sun fruit punch, seven bags of nacho cheese flavored Doritos, 14 bags of Lay’s (barbeque and sour cream and onion for a variety) and seven bags of white cheddar Smartfood. Party size Smartfood to be precise, just in case they ran out of snacks.

Fortunately for Aiwuyor’s bank account, her two little scamps didn’t manage to get those snacks delivered for one reason only and it wasn’t a guilty conscience or a change of heart. “They almost completed the purchase but couldn’t figure out the last few steps. I serve a living God,” she explained on Twitter.

The hilarious attempt at trying to score hundreds of dollars worth of snacks went viral on Twitter, with many users applauding their ingenuity. “I love you little instacart babies have so much fun living my dream,” one person replied. Another noted that their choice in beverage was especially epic, “35 boxes of caprisuns???!! But lemme get a bag of that white cheddar popcorn.”

Perhaps the best response came the day after their foiled order from Instacart, who went ahead and sent them their desired order. And of course they are proudly gripping a giant box of Capri Sun close to their chests.

These two girls are not the first kids to hit up their parents’ phone to order some food without their knowledge. A 6-year-old boy in Michigan recently ordered $1,000 worth of takeout on Grubhub on his dad’s phone, and when he was asked about it his only concern was getting an ETA on his pizza delivery. Grubhub generously offered the bewildered dad a $1,000 credit, which has me thinking these kids kind of have the right idea here.

The three-ingredient late-night snack Selena Gomez eats when she is ‘tired or happy or sad’ - The Indian Express

We are all guilty of indulging in midnight snacking, which usually consists of not-so-healthy food items. Actor-singer Selena Gomez is no different as she recently donned the hat of a ‘late-night party chef’ and shared one of her favourite midnight snacks that can be prepared using just three ingredients. “This is what I usually eat when I am tired and/or happy and/or sad,” she started out saying, in a video posted by Vanity Fair on YouTube.

She went on to demonstrate how she creates her “late-night snack” using crackers, a quick spray of cheese from a can, and a slice of pepperoni. The 30-year-old shared where this unusual snack emerges from. “Growing up in Texas, my mom, dad, stepdad, and family would always get together and watch basketball or football games. One time, my stepdad decided to make a quick snack because everything we were cooking was taking far too long,” Selena said, sharing that her stepdad created this little “cheese-it” recipe.

She began the recipe by squeezing some cheese over a cracker. “You can use any cheese you want, obviously, but this one’s pretty fun. You’re going to squeeze as much as you want. So, go ham if you feel like it,” she said.

Over this mound of cheese, Selena placed a pepperoni and squeezed it against the cracker before adding another layer of cheese on top of the pepperoni and sandwiching the cheese and pepperoni between another cracker. “Make as many as you’d like. You could add peppers if you want or just embellish as you will,” she said.

The next step is to put these cracker sandwiches in a little toaster oven for five minutes. “You want the cheese to get all melty and gross and then the pepperoni to be all hot,” she said.

The singer shared that the last time she had this snack was on Halloween. “I was in New York and I decided to make these for all my New York friends. I thought they would think it was gross but sure enough, everyone was eating these. I live in Los Angeles so some people look at this and think, ‘way to go’. Other people are just panicked that I am even eating something like this. So, it depends on who I am talking to,” she revealed.

Once the snacks were prepared, Selena tasted them and exclaimed, “It’s like a pizza; just like a tiny pizza. It’s so good. You guys have to try, it’s amazing. You have a little bit of the spiciness of the pepperoni and then you’ve got the cheese which is just rich and creamy, and the crackers are warm and salty.”

Asking people to not get her wrong, she concluded by confessing, “When I get to go to nice parties, it’s cool to see a little dill and a little shrimp every now and then. But when it comes down to it… this is what you’ll see me eating.”

ICA foils bid to smuggle 20000 e-vaporisers packed in snack boxes - The Straits Times

SINGAPORE – An attempt to smuggle 20,000 e-vaporisers into Singapore by disguising them as chicken-flavoured snacks was foiled when officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) conducted a closer inspection of the Malaysia-registered lorry.

In a Facebook post on Monday, ICA said the vehicle arrived at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Feb 3.

X-ray images of its cargo revealed anomalies, which led to enhanced checks. The boxes – labelled as snacks – were found to contain e-vaporisers.

ICA said the case has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigation.

“As guardian of our borders, ICA is committed to facilitating trade and safe travels while keeping Singapore’s borders safe and secure,” it added.

Despite the crackdown on such products, illicit vaping continues to be on the rise in Singapore.

According to figures from the HSA, there were almost four times the number of people caught in 2022 for using and possessing e-vaporisers, compared with the number in 2020.

In 2022, 4,916 people were caught, compared with 1,266 in 2020 and 4,697 in 2021.

Those caught for using and possessing vaping products can be fined up to $2,000.

Between 2018 and 2022, 860 people were caught selling and smuggling e-vaporisers, with 145 prosecuted during the same period.

E-vaporisers are bought and sold over the Internet, on social media and via private messaging apps. The HSA works closely with online platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Carousell to remove illegal postings on tobacco-related products.

The Central Narcotics Bureau also carries out active online surveillance and engages e-commerce companies, courier companies and related industries closely to ensure that their platforms and listings are not misused for drug offences.

Anyone convicted of selling, offering for sale, possessing for sale, importing or distributing e-vaporisers can be fined up to $10,000 and jailed for up to six months.

Although there are claims that e-vaporisers are “safer” than traditional cigarettes, whether they are truly less harmful is still up in the air.

Spinach or palak is one of the best sources of iron. Thankfully, there are so many ways in which you can enjoy this leafy vegetable. To prepare stuffed spinach kebabs, you first need to saute whole cumin and ajwain in heated oil. Add spinach and asafoetida powder. Continue stir-frying for a few minutes and then turn off the heat. For the filling, mix roasted cashew nuts with fresh coriander, roasted cumin powder and pomegranate powder. In a separate bowl, mix the cooked spinach with the hung curd and add salt to taste. Divide this mixture into small portions. Gently spoon the cashew filling inside and roll in the shape of a kebab. Shallow fry the kebabs and serve with fresh chutney or sauce. Soya is also a great choice for fighting against iron deficiency. It is also rich in calcium, potassium and selenium. A fun way to enjoy soya is in the form of a stuffed roll. To make this dish, first cut a stick of soya chaap into small pieces and fry. Add them to a bowl and marinate them with curd and masalas. While it marinates, knead maida and flour to form a dough and make parathas/ rotis. After marination, fry the soya pieces in a pan until they are completely cooked. Put them inside the roti and top with green chutney, spicy red chutney, onions and chaat masala. Click here for the full recipe.

Then add seasoning: salt, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and chaat masala. If you want to try something new, make this quick Corn and Pomegranate Chaat. In a bowl, add boiled corn, pomegranate, chopped mint and chopped capsicum. You can also put a few rinds of oranges. Mix well. Add tamarind extract, salt, chaat masala, mustard sauce, chopped coriander leaves, cumin, chilli powder and lime. Click here for the full recipe.

5. Almond, Sweet Potato and Pomegranate Chaat Recipe

If you're looking for a unique chaat recipe, this one is the way to go. While cashew nuts have high iron content, almonds are full of minerals too. The sweet potato in this chaat also adds more nutrients. To make this special chaat, boil white peas in order to make a ragda out of them. In a separate bowl, mix onions, tomatoes, green chillies, fresh coriander, lemon juice, red chilli powder and chaat masala. In another separate bowl, take almonds, pomegranate pearls and sweet potato. Add saunth chutney, lemon juice, chaat masala and chopped coriander. Toss it lightly. Pringles Plant-Based Chicken Fries Take Vegan Snacks to the Next Level - VegNews

Kellogg’s might be best known for its cereal products but the food giant is exploring an exciting collaboration between its iconic Pringles brand and its plant-based meat brand MorningStar Farms. This week, Kellogg’s unveiled MorningStar Farms Chik’n Fries, a frozen vegan snack that can be heated in the microwave or air fryer.

The new plant-based chicken snack line is coming to stores in two flavors: Pringles Original (which features a classic potato with umami notes from meatless chicken broth) and Pringles Scorchin’ Cheddar Cheeze (a spicy and salty combo with a savory kick of dairy-free cheddar).

“Pringles is known for its crisp crunch, iconic can and flavor combinations, and we are excited to give the fans a new way to experience the brand outside of snacking occasions,” Mauricio Jenkins, United States Marketing Lead for Pringles, said in a statement.

“This partnership with MorningStar Farms brings the well-known and loved Pringles flavor into the plant-based space with chik’n fries, a fun and delicious mashup,” he said.

The new Pringles Original MorningStar Chick’n Fries will hit stores in March with the spicy flavor to follow this fall.

Kellogg’s gets into vegan chicken

As consumer tastes continue to evolve, Kellogg’s has been working to innovate its plant-based brand MorningStar Farms. The newest snack line with Pringles comes after the MorningStar Farms brand was revamped with the Incogmeato line in 2020, which features a variety of vegan meat products, including chicken, breakfast sausage, and grounds.

“Given our mission to bring more people into the plant-based protein space, partnering with Pringles seemed like the perfect next step in plant-based innovation for MorningStar Farms,” Danielle Rappoport, Kellogg’s Marketing Director, Plant-Based Protein, said in a statement.

“We’re excited to build upon the success of our most recent product launches and bring Chik’n Fries into MorningStar Farms versatile plant-based lineup, tapping into Pringles fun and distinct flavor profile for a groundbreaking matchup,” Rappaport said. “We’ll continue to show our audience that you don’t have to sacrifice taste to eat plant-based, whether you do [it] full-time or occasionally.”

The new collaboration between Pringles and MorningStar Farms follows another launch in which Kellogg’s dug into its holdings to develop exciting mash-up offerings.

Last year, the company launched the MorningStar Farms’ Incogmeato Plant-Based Chik’n and Eggo LiĂšge Style Waffle, representing the first time a vegan Eggo waffle has been on the market.

Kellogg’s holds on to plant-based portfolio

Last year, Kellogg’s announced it would split its products into three individual businesses, one dedicated to its cereal, one for snacks, and another for its plant-based products (tentatively called “Plant Co.” While Kellogg’s explained that this move would allow for it to develop each arm strategically, some speculated that it would result in a sell-off of one or more portions of its business.

However, after announcing its fourth-quarter sales this month, Kellogg’s decided to renege on its plan for Plant Co., instead choosing to keep its plant-based business closer to the chest.

“After exploring strategic options, the company has decided to retain its plant-based business, which represents 2 percent of net sales and offers strong long-term growth prospects,” the company said in a statement.

With its plant-based portfolio still part of its core business, Kellogg’s plans to continue innovating its meatless products. This year, its MorningStar Farms brand will launch several innovations in the breakfast category, where it already offers vegan breakfast sausages patties, along with several vegetarian items (which contain egg and/or dairy) such as veggie bacon, meatless sausage links, and breakfast sandwiches.

The new items will be two flavors of plant-based breakfast egg bites. Consumers will get the first taste of this line in March when MorningStar Farms Breakfast Bites with Vegan Egg and Sausage hit stores.

This product features cheddar style cheeze, onions and red bell peppers, along with breakfast sausage. This fall, Kellogg’s will release the second flavor in this launch: Breakfast Bites with Vegan Egg and Bacon which is made with vegan eggs, mozzarella cheeze, spinach, onion, and meatless bacon.

While not all of MorningStar Farms products are currently vegan, VegNews has confirmed that the forthcoming egg bites will be made without animal products.

For this, she used raw chopped onions and poured some apple cider vinegar followed by hot water into it. She then added raw beetroots and salt.
