Carlee Russell bought snacks at Target before vanishing, was talking when she returned home, police say - AL.com

Hoover police continue to investigate Carlee Russell’s disappearance and are still awaiting her “to be made available to obtain a more detailed statement,” the department said Tuesday night.

Police said they expect to release more information at a press conference planned for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

As investigators continue to retrace the steps of the 25-year-old nursing student who vanished Thursday night after saying she saw a toddler on I-459, police said Tuesday they learned she went to the Target on U.S. 280 prior to her disappearance.

After leaving work at a day spa, it was previously reported, she picked up dinner at the Taziki’s in the Colonade.

After leaving Taziki’s, police said Tuesday, she purchased snack food at the Target.

“These items were not located in the vehicle or with her cell phone and wig at the scene of her disappearance,” a police statement read.

The statement also said Hoover police have not found any evidence of a toddler walking along I-459, as Russell told 911 and a family member Thursday night.

“Nor did we receive any additional calls about a toddler walking down the interstate, despite numerous vehicles passing through that area as depicted by the traffic camera surveillance video,” the statement read.

Detectives have obtained surveillance video from Russell’s neighborhood that shows her walking down the sidewalk alone prior to her arrival home Saturday night, the statement continued.

“Fire department radio traffic obtained by several media outlets shows that medics were dispatched to her residence on an “unresponsive but breathing” person. That was the term used in the initial dispatch of the Hoover Fire Department to the residence, and the information about her condition was simply a dispatcher relaying information from what a 911 caller told the emergency communicator,” the statement read.

However, first responders found Russell conscious and speaking when she was transported to UAB Hospital, police said.

The investigation continues as police try to determine what happened during the approximately 49 hours she was missing and what took place prior to her disappearance, police said.

Her parents appeared on the TODAY show Tuesday morning and said she was abducted and fought for her life.
