Google to stop offering free snacks, laundry services and other perks to employees to save money - India Today

According to reports, Google will reduce or eliminate many of its company-wide perks, including micro kitchens that provide free snacks, laundry services, massages, and company lunches.

By Ankita Chakravarti: Google has consistently been rated as one of the best workplaces, thanks to the perks it offers to its employees. However, these perks have become quite expensive for the company. As a result, Google has decided to cut down on some of its extravagant expenses. According to reports, Google will reduce or eliminate many of its company-wide perks, including micro kitchens that provide free snacks, laundry services, massages, and company lunches. In addition to this, Google will also slow down its hiring process to save costs.

advertisement

As per a Business Insider report, Google’s Chief Financial Officer, Ruth Porat, said the company needs to use the funds efficiently to focus on higher-priority work. In a memo sent to Google employees on Friday, which was accessed by Insider, Porat said the company will reduce its hiring pace and reallocate teams to focus on higher-priority work. The memo also stated that the company will discontinue spending on personal equipment like laptops. Porat added that the perk adjustments will vary based on office location needs and trends seen in each office space.

Google is contemplating closing the micro kitchen on days that see a lower volume of use and shifting some fitness class schedules depending on how they are being used. While the perk reductions may seem like a significant change for Google employees, the company claims the perk reductions are to create savings to support other improvements such as machine utilization.

Google is known for its extensive range of perks, including free snacks, laundry services, massages, and company lunches, making it an ideal place to work. The company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, said earlier this year that the company would be cutting Google staff by about 6 per cent, amounting to roughly 12,000 employees, to direct the company’s talent and capital to its highest priorities, including Artificial Intelligence.

Talking about the same, Google spokesperson Ryan Lamon told Gizmodo, “As we’ve publicly stated, we have a company goal to make durable savings through improved velocity and efficiency,He added, “As part of this, we’re making some practical changes to help us remain responsible stewards of our resources while continuing to offer industry-leading perks, benefits, and amenities.”

The news may not make the Google employees, who absolutely love the perks, very happy, but it is a necessary step for the company to save funds and focus on its high-priority work, including Artificial Intelligence. Google will continue to offer industry-leading perks, benefits, and amenities, but some adjustments will be made to help the company remain responsible stewards of its resources.

Snacks that will keep (unwanted) cravings at bay - The Indian Express

Cravings can strike at any hour, and at times, compel you to reach out for the unhealthiest thing your eyes can see. This habit is also what exactly leads to excess calorie intake, which further affects metabolism and fitness goals. So, what can you do? Prep well, say experts, to ensure you make mindful snack choices.

As such, Mithila, a nutritionist, listed a few snacks that you can have when hunger pangs come calling, uninvited.

She listed chana, peanuts, khakra, foxnuts, and almonds as good snack options, stating that these snacks will keep you “full for longer since they are good sources of healthy fats, protein or complex carbs. These snacks will manage your hunger and blood sugar levels very well,” said Mithila.

According to her, one should treat snacking as a small meal in-between your main meal. But why?

*Will ensure shorter gaps between two meals
*Helps maintain blood sugar levels
*Keeps you satisfied throughout the day, especially during working hours
*Prevents cravings

Concurring that healthy snacks should contain “more protein, healthy fats, or fibre”, which keep one satiated for long, registered dietitian Garima Goyal said that such snacks are easier to “find, prepare and eat”.

How do they help?

Roasted chana – This protein-rich superfood is one of the healthiest and most nutritious snacks. When chana is heated on a low flame, their crispiness and freshness is retained. They are one of the best option when it comes to complete nutrition as they have an ideal combination of protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. They help maintain sugar levels and also reduce cravings, thanks to their high fibre content.

Makhanas or foxnuts – Makhanas, when well-roasted, are a great snack to munch on. You can even add flavourings like salt and pepper or powdered mint or oregano and chilli flakes to them. For those on a weight loss journey, this snack is definitely a must try. Also, since they are low in sodium, those with hypertension can also have them. They are also famous for their calcium content, thus aiding healthy bones and teeth. It has everything to keep a person satiated for a longer time, along with giving a heavenly taste.

Peanuts – Having unsalted peanuts in moderation is great as it has healthy fats, the prominent one being an unsaturated fatty acid called oleic acid. Also, they enhance energy levels and wake you up from an afternoon slumber — all because of their high protein levels, which also aid in building and repairing of the muscles. Also, due to their low glycemic index, they don’t lead to a sudden spike in blood sugar levels. So, whenever you feel hungry, have peanuts as their protein, fat and fibre content will also keep you fuller for longer.

Khakhra – Khakhra is a crispy low calorie snack. Its fibre and protein content makes it ideal for weight loss, too. These can be made from whole wheat flour and are baked rather than fried.

Handful of almonds – Snacking on almonds has shown to improve appetite regulating hormones. They come handy with protein, healthy fats and help curb hunger pangs.

Which one do you like?

Many turned up along with friends and family members to taste and learn about the recipes in about 50 food stalls in the mela organized by the Food Safety and Drug Administration with an aim to promote millet and to train vendors about how to cater food to their customers in a hygienic manner. The year 2023 has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets.
Dr Vikas Kumar, who came with his son Vansh, said, “Today, junk food is a fad among kids, hence I wanted my son to know about healthy snacks made of millet,” he said. Richa Mehrotra, 26, was surprised to find that several snacks that looked like junk food items but were actually made of millet. “Had the vendor not told me that the lavash and cupcakes were made by mixing jowar, bajra and makka, I would have never found it,” she said. Other major attractions included stalls selling kebabs made of jackfruit, sweets and baked items made of millets. Some stalls even gave free samples of ragi and jowar products.
Visitors also were informed about health hazards of using cooking oil which already has been used once. One of the stalls displayed how used-cooking oil can be converted into biodiesel and used as an alternative of fossil fuel.
Earlier, the event began with a walkathon flagged off by state minister Dayashankar Mishra and attended by college students. It was accompanied by bands of para military forces, home guard and PAC. Wrestler Sangram Singh, who is also brand ambassador of Fit India, encouraged participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make millet part of their diet

Weight Loss Tips: 3 Best Post-Workout Snacks, As Per A Nutritionist

Snacking post-workout can boost your overall health and replenish your energy levels

Our diet greatly influences our health as well as our weight loss. No matter you are working out in order to lose weight, maintain weight or gain muscle, it is important to nourish your body adequately. One such way to nourish the body is my having a post-workout snack. Nutritionist Lovneet Batra shares the importance of post-workout snacking and best snacks for the same.

She writes, “When planning a workout, there is a lot that goes into it to help you reach your goals. As part of that effort, there is a good chance you put a lot of thought into your post-workout meal. Consuming the right nutrients after exercise is just as important as eating before.”

“Each macronutrient - protein, carbs, and fat - is involved in your body's post-workout recovery process. What you eat after a workout can help to optimize your recovery. It is recommended that you consume 10 to 20 grams of protein after a workout, depending on your body weight, workout duration and workout intensity, whereas healthy fats help your muscles repair, recover, and grow. Go for complex carbs that help your muscle replenish the glycogen they just lost while training.

According to research eating your post-workout meal within 45 minutes, as a delay of carb consumption by as little as 2 hours after a workout may lead to as much as 50% lower rates of glycogen synthesis. Finally, replenishing lost water and electrolytes can complete the picture and help you maximize the benefits of your workout.

The nutritional requirements of your body post workout are different and need to be addressed with a diet that helps your body recover, repair, and build muscles.” She continues.

3 Best snacks to eat post-workout, as per nutritionist:

Cheese Rolls: New Zealand's Nostalgic Afternoon Snack - Tasting Table

The simple structure of a cheese roll may lead you to assumptions about how to construct one yourself. However, if you want to enjoy a cheese roll the proper way, there are a few steps to follow. To start, you should combine and heat all your cheese sauce ingredients in a pan on the stove. Once the ingredients are fully mixed, thick, and melty, the cheese sauce can be spread onto the slices of white bread.

The slices then get rolled up tightly, and butter is applied to the outside. Now, it's ready to be heated — you can make yours on a baking tray, indoor grill, panini press, or a similar appliance. Once the roll is golden and crisp, it can be removed and enjoyed.

Cheese rolls can be chowed down on at any time of day, either for a quick lunch or snack. While some Southland restaurants are putting an elevated flair on the classic rolls — topping them with anything from fruits and nuts to truffle oil — purists simply love the unassuming bread and cheese combo that hits the spot each time.
