The school serves snacks in the evenings for the students to stay back and prepare for board exams. The school hopes to achieve 100% pass this year in Class X and XII board exams.
School authorities said that the evening snacks scheme has helped in increasing the performance of students over the years.
“We implemented the scheme in 2010. Initially, we started it only for slow learners who attended special evening classes. Within a month, parents requested us to implement it for Class X and XII students as well. Annually, we spend around Rs 2 lakh on this scheme. Parents, teachers, alumni, and well-wishers of the school contribute the amount for this scheme,” the headmaster of the school R Senthilkumar said.Every year, the special classes commence after the Pongal holidays. K Sivakumar, a teacher at the school, said, “A total of 354 students are studying in Class X and Class XII. Classes are conducted between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Before we start a class, we provide one food item like sundal, tomato rice, or tamarind rice for the students.”
Before 2010, the school’s board exam pass percentage was between 80 and 85. After the implementation of the scheme, the school’s pass percentage gradually increased. In the 2022–2023 academic year, the school achieved a pass percentage of 98. In 2021–2022, it achieved a pass percentage of 99 in Class XII. Last year, the school achieved 95% in Class X.
