Bengaluru: In fine move, citizens’ group supplies snacks, refreshments - Times of India

BENGALURU: Volunteers from Malleswaram & Suttha Muttha group have been distributing about 600 packets of refreshments to staff in government hospitals every day.
They launched the drive in the last week of April after a hospital requested them for snacks as all canteens and eateries were shut due to the lockdown. The group collected more than Rs 10 lakh for this and other initiatives.
Sunayana Chatrapathy, a member of the group, said they reach out to five public health centres and a hospital every day.
With 20-25 volunteers and support pouring in from residents, some of whom now live abroad, they have also reached out to 5-10 other hospitals in Bengaluru. Even ITC Britannia has reached out to the group with one lakh packets of biscuits and cakes.
“We aim for a variety of items every day like buttermilk, and bakers ensure the food is healthy,” Chatrapathy said. Another member said the refreshments are packed in a way that doctors can eat them without removing their gloves.
Besides this, volunteers present healthcare workers with hand-written thank-you cards. The group has also organised vaccination drives, including one where citizens over 85 years are taken in a car and vaccinated in the vehicle itself.
Staff to be felicitated
Inner Wheel Club, Bangalore will felicitate doctors at Bowring Hospital and public health centres at 11am on Thursday. The club has organised another event at 4pm where various resident welfare associations have contributed gift hampers and plaques to be presented to doctors and healthcare workers.
